New members needed for Howden Show Committee |
Following
on from the success of the 2010 Howden Show, new committee members are
being sought to ensure that the popular annual event continues to go
from strength to strength.
A
different lay-out and a variety of new attractions helped to ensure
that this year’s show, which took place at The Ashes playing fields in
Howden last month, was well supported. This meant that, for the first
time in a number of years, the Howden Show Committee was able to clear
all of its debt, ensuring that the financial position is good ahead of
the 2011 show.
The
committee’s current Chairman, Richard Dunlop, said: “The good news is
that, finally, the show has managed to clear all its debts, which is a
great credit to all those involved and a real achievement after some
very difficult years.
“The
sad news is that a number of committee members are no longer able to
continue. It would be tragic if Howden lost its annual show, but,
without a team behind it, its future looks bleak. We need new volunteers
who are willing to carry on with the tradition of the show. It is hard
work, but lots of fun, and the sense of achievement at the end of the
day makes it all worth it.”
He
added: “On behalf of the current committee, I’d like to thank everyone
who gave up their time and energy for us before, during and after the
show; without them it would be an impossible task.
The
Annual General Meeting of the Howden Show Committee will take place at
the Wellington Hotel on Monday 6 September at 7.30pm. If you’re
interested in joining or finding out more about what’s involved, please
come along.
